also here is another basic complaint against mmorpgs0pgspeshhhagphrmphgs:

Quote:
0:13) Alderweis: working at a game = not fun.
(10:51:00) Alderweis: in CS, you worked to gain skills... hand eye coordination, sound detection and locational positioning... movement, etc.
(10:51:09) Alderweis: actual skills.
(10:51:16) Guvn3rz: yea
(10:51:17) Alderweis: in MMORPGs you work for shiny things.
(10:51:30) Alderweis: point, click, wait, point, click, wait, point, click wait.
(10:51:33) Guvn3rz: i see what u mean, nothing tangible
(10:51:35) Alderweis: pay.
(10:52:33) Alderweis: in CS, you can get better because your tangible body improves, if only in areas related to moving a mouse/hearing earphones/detecting movement
(10:52:53) Alderweis: in MMORPGS you get better cause you invest time (which = money)

Guild Wars was the first "MMO" I ever played, and while I enjoyed it, you run out of stuff to do pretty quick. Also, and I knew nothing of mmo's when I played it, but when you were out in the wilderness I always wished there were more than 8 people running around.

When single player games come out I usually torrent them, unless I really feel like the devs deserve my moneys. Which isn't very often. Eh, I don't know... I'm kinda too cheap to pay to play. I just play free games like Flyff.

Let's put it into perspective, WOW is hardly even a fucking game. Case in point: My fat oafish friend. I've watched him "play WOW." Here is what I saw.

1. Logins in to game
2. Set's his "mount" to fly him somewhere. He walks away from computer for 15 minutes while he makes himself food.
3. Comes back, now waits for guild members to assemble and prepare for some gay orgy.
4. 40 minutes later of doing nothing gay orgy is finally ready.
5. They all go off and fight this big thing while he screams about how "OMG This guy could kill us if he really wanted to right now." And when I say go off and fight I mean he sits in the back and just jumps up and down while casting some heal spell.
6. The end. You can honestly play this game if your right arm was blown off and all you had for your left was one pointy nub. There is no skill in the game and I'm shocked at how much downtime of just waiting around and or doing nothing there is.

lawl, yes, because you need those skills in your real life trade as a bounty hunter.

further, i've played CS since years and I still get most of my kills through tactical thinking, not raw reflex coordination, etc.

And there's plenty of tactical thinking to be hand in all non FPSs.

eh, tactical thinking in WOW?

Hand/eye = teh win in real life...

Sound detection = also teh win (heightened ability to deduce direction... why would you NOT want this?)

You surely are not suggesting these "skills" are merely related to warfare..

Alright... all I have to say is this.

"Lightening bolt!" vs. "*sound of awp*"

i wasn't refering to WoW explicitly. I don't think there's a whole lot of tactics to it, otherwise i might be tempted to play it. But it surely has some.

WoW wasnt made for tactics. you just play a lot and get to a really high level and get large groups to fight eerything. in games like guild wars where the highest level is 20 and you can only have 8 people in a group you are forced to use teamwork and tactics.

To an extent, I didn't find Guild Wars very team oriented.

there are a lot of missions in guild wars that i had trouble with because i could never find a group that would use any teamwork at all

pubs aren't very team oriented.

that doesn't mean the game itself isn't.

just look at CS.

well im here to tell you all that wow does take some skill and some tactics not saying its the hardest thing in the world but if you have ever played and played extensively there are plenty of idiot players who it becomes obvious dont knwo how to play.

Though most of the game is more about time played and planning ahead for gear and builds and such if you are retarded it shows in the play.

The example i will give is for a high end guild doing Molten Core (40 man raid) and MC was actually pretty easy once you had about 25 people who knew what they are doing.

Most people run meters to keep track of things done for instance as a druid there was a heal meter running for the whole raid so if i wasnt doing my job it showed. Rogues, we had damage meters running if they sucked it showed.

There were 20 man instances that were put in later that really showed how good people were and how well geared they were because if you had 2 crappy healers all 20 people would die constantly.

The game does have more to do with time invested then skill at it though as most MMOs do. This is coming from experience as I have played nearly every one that has came down the road at least for a little while. (i never played DOAC or EQ though) The mechanics are virtually identical for all of these games and i was immersed in WoW for about as long as i was Asherons Call when i played it. I did have a lot of fun but the time investment is simply ludicrous.

The only games i buy are online ones basically. BF2 HL2 WoW i did just buy titan quest in case i want to play online. Most games i only play for about 5 hours no way im buying a game for 50 dollars to only play half of it.

i didnt read any of that but read your Xfire signature and saw you have played 2134 hours of WOW which to me means you have speant a total of 88 days but it couldnt be all straight like that so lets say...30 hours a week. Which is 71 weeks.
Now, WOW is 15.00 a month so lets see...266.73 dollars wasted on a video game. You could have invested that in say Aqua America (WTR) and would now have a couple more shares and a bit more money.

your math is off lol you underestimate a wow addict. my character was 90 days old in 8 months of playing which averages out to 9 hours a day!!! thats a little bit sick. some of the time is a little bit decieving because i did alot of afking in there and constantly just let my charcter sit while scanning auctions and such. I also had my character logged in about 20 hours a day for 2 weeks while i was getting exalted in AV which was gay i just afk leeched all day for 2 staright weeks

I played for 8 months though which was 121 dollars and bought the game for 50 and spent probably another 40-50 on gold in game so totaling around 210 or so give or take.

Tell me any other activity that for 25$ a month occupies that much of my time while doing something i like. I usually like MMO's because while i do pay a monthly fee it is my obsession and i dont spend money on other crap that i normally would. So for the price of 2 movie tickets i can play a game as much as i want for a month, doesnt seem like a bad deal to me.

i play like Jenosidhe plays, thought I wouldn't touch wow with a 10 foot pike, even after dime offered to pay my way.

i'm tempted to sit on eve for hours on end. I've done it, spent the whole waking day on eve.

It's not hard.

But then, before eve, I'd spend the whole waking day on the computer anyway, just usually spread between different games.

So it's not like it's new for me. I like eve because I can half-play if I want, or I can completely afk it, or I can do something that requires my full attention.

Neil, I gotta say I'm a little amused at the argument that CS translates into real life useful skills. Maybe you're joking, but... ---> NO <---. I think any game teaches a bit of teamwork, communication, and all that crap. CS probably does improve your reflexes, but I don't know if it goes any farther than your wrist.

On the other hand, I do believe people who play FPS are uncanny shots IRL even if they've never fired a gun. When I shoot Joseph Smith with my airsoft gun, it surprises me how often I can put one through his tiny paper eye without carefully sighting. Also, I'm sure that if we all suddenly had to clear a building, we'd be good at setting up firing angles without even thinking about it.

But useful skills? Eh.

I don't know why anyone would carry on an argument about what game is more useful than what. I have my opinions, such as that WoW is gay, but all games come out to time and money that could be more productively spent. They're hobbies. They're fun. Different stuff is fun for different people. Neil, assrott, I, and other manly men prefer FPS, which don't (yet) require subscription fees. All the gay people like MMORPG's. lawl

Cliffs for Hapy: everyone stfu, the argument's pointless

Applicable MooKeTTe quote: useless
