Aww. Lucky bitch. I double checked to make sure my opt-in was still set up right a couple days ago, and no email...

Sorry, not invite basis. Have to create battle.net account, opt in to betas, then get a lucky number.

Sadly I'm very underwhelmed. I loved the first starcraft and had huge hopes for this one. It's got really pretty graphics, the interface (menus, finding games, building games, etc) are really slick, but other then that it's just kinda....eh. The 3 races work almost exactly the same way, the gameplay seems to be almost exactly the same....it seems like exactly the same game that came out back in like 1997 just with a few of the units changed around. I'll try a few more games over the next few days, but unless the experience improves a lot, I don't know that I'll bother purchasing.

Yeah i know... i have zero Blizzard games on my battlenet account, so I could not opt-in... They don't count the hours I spent playing Warcraft3 on BnetD :(

Also, I read an overview on Wired today that pretty much agrees with you... He called it Starcraft:HD. That says a lot about your game.

Hmm, doesn't sound too exciting. Sounds like they're catering to people who have been playing Starcraft for 12 years nonstop... so much that they chose not to bother with improved gameplay.

Exactly...at this point in time there are certain additional features i've come to expect with my RTS:
1) Facing...the direction my units are facing should have an effect on how quickly they die. Every other computer game in existence now uses this idea to some extent, as do most RTS's
2) The use of cover. My units should automatically seek cover (which gives them defenseive bonuses) and I should be able to direct them to better/further cover. Lack of any said is just sloppy/lazy/waaaay old school.
3) Mild intelligence to unit AI. At this point in time I dont understand why when I send 10 space marines to attack a single building the computer says "They all have a range of 5 blocks, so I'll make them move to a perfect horseshoe around the building exactly 5 paces away". Is it still functional: yes. Does it look gay as hell and fail to draw you into the game: damn fucking skippy.

I'm sure there's a lot more, but that's all I've got for now.

So I still felt a mere twinge of guilt for being invited to participate in this beta, only playing a handful of games, and then giving it up. I decided to go check the blizz forums for the game, see if any changes have been made (in which case I'd actually play a couple more games before deleting), or at least leave them some feedback prior to deleting the game. On the forums I found absolutely no changes made/or intented to be made to actually change gameplay. No fixes to issues mentioned or intentions to.

So then I figured "okay, I've been a loyal blizz customer for the last many years, I at least owe them some constructive feedback." So I went through my bnet account and tried to leave feedback. Here's the latest "survey" they posted (aparently each one only runs until the next is ready):
Quote:
StarCraft II Beta Surveys
Beta Survey #2: Race Matchups
Should take less than 5 minutes.
I feel the most fun matchup to play is:
Terran vs Terran
Protoss vs Protoss
Zerg vs Zerg
Terran vs Protoss
Terran vs Zerg
Protoss vs Zerg
I feel the most balanced matchup is:
Terran vs Terran
Protoss vs Protoss
Zerg vs Zerg
Terran vs Protoss
Terran vs Zerg
Protoss vs Zerg
I feel the most unbalanced matchup is:
Terran vs Terran
Protoss vs Protoss
Zerg vs Zerg
Terran vs Protoss
Terran vs Zerg
Protoss vs Zerg
Submit Survey
That was it. 3 gay ass questions with 'select one option' buttons next to them and a 'submit' button at the end. HOW THE FUCK DO YOU GET DECENT FEEDBACK FROM THAT? FUCK YOU BLIZZARD! YOU OBVIOUSLY DONT GIVE A RATS ASS YOU MADE A GIANT DOUCHE OF A GAME, DONT CARE WHAT YOUR CUSTOMERS THINK, AND DONT TRUST THEM TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK. FUCK YOU.

they're just tweaking numbers at this point. not actually changing anything. You expected too much, bro. Beta means "most shit is set in stone" public beta means "we just need to to find bugs."

:\

just cry about it in the forums. it's all we can do.

Blizzard, like Valve, has been one of the few developers we can trust without hesitation.
They made a game that isn't what you're currently looking to play.
It happens sometimes.
I played the original series, but never got into it to the level most (Teaks, Sabs) did...
and that's ok.
It'll still be a damn fun game for 95% of the people who play it and more power to Blizz for it.
They're a good enough developer that they will make something we love again one day.

We beta tested the original. It was terrible at the beginning. Turned out to be one of if not the best rts ever made. I however hated warcraft 3. Is starcraft 2 just like warcraft 3?

Has anyone actually purchased and played this potential steaming pile of dinosaur crap?

I was beyond against it after playing the beta, but a couple of the screenshots for it show new stuff not seen in the beta. I remain...skeptical.

I bought it.

I never played the original SC and I've never really played RTSs either but I'm having a blast.

You can add me to your friends list by using the email: brandonempting (at) gmail (dot) com

Yup.

That's just it. From everything we've seen, it's pretty much just the origional again.

From the stuff I've read and people I've talked to that's true except with the addition of some very awesome features and of course a good deal of polish.

Either way it's a good time Teaks my man and hopefully one day I'll see you in it.

I am in the process of getting my ass STOMPED so I need to do more reading on build orders and become more familiar with the classes.
