Although I'm not advocating buying this in any way (I long ago lost hope for the C&C series) looking through the list of features showed a bit of new innovation for an RTS.
Quote:
*Choose to take on the campaign solo or team up with a friend and play cooperatively!
*Persistent Player Progression – The more enemy units you destroy, the more experience points you earn to progress your player profile! Level up to unlock new units, powers, and upgrades to make your army more powerful!
*featuring 5 vs 5 objective-based battles! Choose your favorite class and take online strategy action to the next level as you conquer objectives
*The all-new party system lets you move with your party of friends from one online battle to the next
Looks like they're copying some of the more 'standard' things for current FPS's, or BC2 at least, but the party-system (create your party once and it stays as you go from one game to the next) would be something new for most games.

RTS has always had that system silently in single player. You never start your first mission with ALL your units. You build up by winning missions. XP is essentially the same thing, except broken into even smaller chunks. Keeps some kids happy, being constantly rewarded for doing well. I'm not sure if behavioral specialists would suggest that's the most effective way to reward good behavior (that being constantly) but it sure worked for Blizzard.

I didn't like it at first in bc2 but it sure made me play the fuck out of it these last two weeks. I like how random noobs don't have the best guns to blow me away with. But i don't like how it impacted my play - i would choose my kit based on what weapon I wanted next, not on the map or the squad. Thankfully, it's over now. Personally, I kinda like XP systems as long as they are short duration. But long or permanent duration XP systems I refuse to play.

Ya agreed. Problem is there are always those people who have no life and have it all unlocked somehow in 2 days. Makes it really goy for the rest of the casual gamers.

This is how I'm feeling right now.

Personally I love being able to unlock shit and get prizes and blah, blah, blah.... you get the idea.

That being said I'm at the point where I've unlocked all my assault and so I'm playing classes that I'm sub-par with. I know it probably does help me get better but there are times where I know I'd be working better with the team and having a better time if I had a different load-out.

Oh well.. dat's dem vidya games for ya'.

Since I more or less started my gaming career on the original C&C back in '95, I will play every single C&C game until I die.

Even if it gets completely trashed in reviews.

How long did you play BF2? And how long did it take you to get all u'r guns there? Oh, and mass effect 1/2? Aren't all RPGs essentially one big long system of small rewards for continued gameplay?

All together I don't think it's a perfect system, but it's one more thing to keep you occupied after first getting a game, like Fusoya said, it forces you to play different classes then what you normally do (so 12-year-old sniper fags have a small motivation to play assault for a short time), and it serves as a good psychological tool to help indoctrinate players into booting up and playing their game time and again for awhile.

i played 500+ hours of bf2 i think. I never got all the guns. I hated that.

Mass Effect I played for the story, not the leveling up. I only play really fucking good RPGs with really fucking good stories exactly because the leveling up isn't interesting enough for me.

Why you defensive, anyway? I said i liked bc2's system.

I lack a good anger outlet for the moment. Plenty of frustraition and little to no outlet, so I've been picking fights recently. It's either that or the alcohol. Either way, sorry.

Why is it always "Brandon"? Why not Bill or Joyce? And what about Hank? Don't you think Hank deserves some recognition now and then?

How about fuck you?
The amount of Brandons is roughly equal to the amount of Brians around here. Don't hate us. Hate your parents.
