Newegg has a few for ~150. You should be able to find a X58A-UD3R for ~100 used, but I don't know about quality. Check Anandtech or TechReport's reviews for that.

hi,

I can't wait for the 7 series. I need a new card now for BF3. I don't want to pay over $300 (so no 6970). My sweet spot is low $200s. I can't crossfire or SLI. I'm not dead-set on AMD, but I'd rather them have my money than Nvidia if all else is equal.

So i'm looking at the 6950. Is the it worth the 50-60 more dollars it costs over the 6870? Should I get something else entirely?

I can bench the 6870 on the beta if you want (1920x1200, x6 1090t, lmk what other settings you're interested in). I'd go with that as a stop-gap card, otherwise the 6950 or GTX 570.

Also, if you go AMD, you'll likely get a copy of DX:HR (possibly Dirt3 and/or Shogun 2 as well, depending on if they're running those promos still); if you go Evga on Nvidia, you should get Batman Arkham City. You can sell the game to help bring the overall cost down.

Depends if you're thinking of doing any other upgrades soon. If you might get a new motherboard in the near future, you could get one 6870 now and add a second later.

The 6950 will probably only be good for 4-8 fps over the 6870, so for $50 it's not a big step up. But, if you're not likely to purchase a new single card or upgrade to a new motherboard and crossfire somewhat soon, you might as well get the best card within your budget. The 560 ti is close to the 6950 in price and performance... 560 ti does a little better at lower resolutions, 6950 better at 1080p and up. Most 560 ti's are about $20 cheaper. Whichever you'd prefer.

thanks for the help.

Got this 6950. Figure It'll last me at least 2 years as we play the fuck out of BF3. By that time I'll def need a new motherboard and maybe i'll crossfire it. the 6870s probably won't even exist 2 years from now.

my asus 5870 has done pretty well so far at 1680 or whateve rhte res is at full. though, I'm sure when we throw in vehicles fucking shit up itll start to eat poop.. figured this does good enough till the full game, so ill see how ti handles the big booms then and pick up a 6970 after release.

oh i got an i7 930 free + picked up a sabertooth mobo for 160.. so not too shabby -_-

yea you're sitting pretty, then. you ought hold out for the 7000 series. At least to see the price drop on the 6970s.

anyone know the level of tessalation in bf3? I won't lie, I don't really know what it is to be honest, in detail. Brady brought up a good point, if i can find anothrt 5870 cheap i can just xfire them, but i am not sure if it would do poor as a result of tessalation seeing as i'm not sure what ti si compeltely:P

else, i decided xfire 6950. seeing sd a 70 isn't worrth teh extra 100$ for the like 10% increase.. and i can always get a 2nd 6950 at xmas when sales come around

I don't imagine you'd see a whole lot of difference due to tessellation, maybe some smoother character/plane models and random terrain. Nvidia has a decent description of it.
