Carlos Guillen's single with two out in the fourth scored Marcus Thames, who had walked, and was the first hit Perez allowed. Guillen's single started a hit parade of seven of eight Tigers getting a hit off Perez.

What Perez kept quiet about was that he had developed a finger blister in the fourth.
