equipment they're using is from my company. GABE USES LIFESIZE. HOW APPROPRIATE.
You should have patched the firmware on it just before they went live on the call, destroying its core functionality, and installing a new system whereby the equipment now makes dozens of worthless egg mcmuffins of varying sizes while you are mid-call. These egg mcmuffins then become exploitable, and give everyone within 50 feet a case of rotten-crotch. Within minutes, the equipment becomes unrecognizable as the device it once was, or was intended to be.

Electricity theory question:
Do USB cables all charge things at a standard rate/current?
Can I use one USB cable to charge my PS3 controller, cell phone, and vibe if they've all got the same mini-b dongle?
And no, I don't want to research it, just gimme a godammed answer.

This is a dumb question. Why wouldn't you be able to?

My heart!
I was just curious because all the new phones comes with usb cables that feature an adapter to plug it into your wall.
Those adapter all have different voltages and amperage (that's a thing, right?).
So if the power coming out of the computer and into the USB cable is standard, and the electricity coming out of [most] sockets in the wall is standard, then why the different numbers on all the adapters?

Which numbers?

Post subject:  Re: Hogg's Random Crap Thread

Half-ass, unresearched answer:

Adaptors are actually miniature transformers that shift the voltage down to a usable level (usually 120v to 12v). I don't think amperage factors heavily into the equation (amperage is the quotient of voltage and total resistance) since there's very little resistance in the transformer itself (just line resistance). The amperage needed to power the device is generated inside the device itself, using either a battery of resistors or a capacitor bank.

As far as USB connections go, I assume there's either a transformer inside the gadget itself that does the work, or the USB port is part of a larger parallel circuit (the motherboard) which is built specifically to drop the required voltage off at that particular resistor.
