My favorite part of the furlough? The part where Hogg is stuck on mandatory three day weekends while I'm stuck on mandatory overtime. We're both in the same family, just different branches of the tree. Psssst. G'vmnt, If you split the difference, everything will end up pretty much equal and you won't screw over people expecting to get paid. Not that I'm complaining about OT. I make stupid good money on it and I get to wear shorts to work. Of course, I get home Saturday after 8-10 hours and I'm too sleepy for games, but life is compromise. |

They did cut the furloughs off at six days instead of eleven, so that's over now. Just enough to get the civilian workforce fired up about defense spending cuts. Now they're throwing around news of impending 20% cuts across the board next year, likely RIFs, etc. Voila: 700,000 instant lobbyists angrily writing their congressmen. At least, I assume that's their intent. What's actually happened where I work is that morale and productivity went to shit and about 20% of the civilians have already quit and gone over to local companies who won't fuck them in the ass. Or will at least pay them what they promised while they do it. |
