The thing i still dont get about this stuff is how is this not entrapment. I mean how can you arrest someone for intent to do something that is completely false. Thats like sending you to jail for saying you want to kill someone and being in the same room as a knife. seems like an awful big jump to go from intent to commit a sex act to commiting one i mean they are pervs dont get me wrong but this just seems like an equally perversion of the legal system.

Also why in gods name would sign a waver to allow your twisted ass mug on TV for the whole nation to see, they cant put you on without permission so why the hell would you do that to yourself.

Entrapment works only if one is induced to commit said crime by law enforcement. If you were to use this in a court system you have to prove that the police, or in this case Dateline and the police got you to commit this crime that you otherwise wouldn't have done on your own. Posing as a 14 year old girl and saying you'd be down with some "pussy licking" is not really any different than how a police officer is allowed to lie to you to turn convictions. You see it on tv all the time. The officer will say that your friends have already turned you in and the only way to save yourself is to admit to the crime now. The "awful big jump" of intent to commit a sex act and commiting one will be determined within the court preceedings. Not only that, but if you've watched enough of these "to Catch a Predator" these people are burying themselves. They bring whip cream, alcohol, and or show up nude. It does border entrapment, but if they are already willing to commit the act, in this case underage sexzoring, then offering the chance to get freaky isn't entrapment. So if for example a police officer is under cover selling crack, just because the undercover cop is dealing drugs, doesn't mean that the crack head is somehow "entrapped" by going up to him and buying them. Although you could argue that they are inticing the perverts, they basically pwn themselves by being such idiots anyhow.

Oh on the entrapment thing the difference is that the crackhead is arrested when he pays for the drugs thereby commiting a criminal act in paying for illegal drugs. If the crackhead asks if he has drugs that isnt illegal paying for them is. All this guy has to say is that he was simply roleplaying and was sure it wasnt really a 14 yr old person and had it been he would have simply left. By saying he was roleplaying they cant prove he wasnt because he has yet to commit an actual act he simply had intent to do so.

I never watch this stuff but i ave seen a couple clips of some now. I just dont think its right to depending on how they lure them in. If they run around chatrooms saying hey im a 14yr old girl want to cyber and they sya sure then thats one thing. If these numbnutz are going around mssging people saying i need a 14yr old to cyber with then they are retarded in the first place.

So you're presuming that the prosecutors couldn't connect the dots of a case? Do you honestly believe "I was only roleplaying" would work? If it was a roleplay why show up with things like alcohol...etc. or even show up in the first place?

well as i said i dont think its an issue of whether you cna connect the dots the simple fact is that they are arresting people who have an intent to do something and have yet to commit the act. Now if the actual chat is illegal then ok. But the problem does still stand that they have yet to actually do anything, if they can lie about who they are in chat whats to assume they dont expect the other person to lie. The links above with interviews pretty much answered my question and it would more or less come down to who had a good enough lawyer to get them off.

Its what i kinda felt about say the movie minority report. most of the laws are set up where you have to commit an act to be prosecuted. my problem is arresting these people and airing it when you truly dont know because nothing did actually happen.

the excuse that he was roleplaying could be equally as viable as the 40yr old fat shit bitch on the phone who says shes 14. the problem is they are using the same problems to catch the people as the people are using to solicit the sex acts.

Again believe me im not condoning the actions by any stretch of the imagination, i think they are sick. I just see what they are doing as a perversion of the law to get what you want. My question still stands if someone is found not guilty i would hope they would sue the shit out of dateline for airing that, especially if they are not required to agree for it to air.

In some states (including the ones featured on Dateline), it is against the law to even show up to a rendezvous with a minor. So in the eyes of the law: role play away, talk all you want about banging 13 year olds with cats, just don't arrange and carry out a meeting.

yea, i'm sure dateline has a bevy (bevvy?) of lawyers that not only assure they are legally sound, but wouldn't hesitate to make it so in court if the ACLU got onto them.
