the pirates being us.

if you haven't heard, this is my plan to put the manhammer into eve.

we train up some simple chars who fly around in kestrels with 4 missile launchers blowing shit up.

should be fun, the training time is so short we can even get those who don't pay to make trial accounts again, train, be given ships and equipment, come play for some fun event, and then leave again.

reqs are these:
you must be caldari.
make intelligence your primary attribute, then memory, then perception, then willpower. (unless you want to really develop the character beyond 14 days, then choose your own path)

these are the skills:
1: Caldari Frigate II (3 hours, 52 minutes, 54 seconds)
2: Caldari Frigate III (21 hours, 57 minutes, 6 seconds)
3: Navigation I (14 minutes, 17 seconds)
4: Warp Drive Operation I (14 minutes, 17 seconds)
5: Missile Launcher Operation I (25 minutes)
6: Missile Launcher Operation II (1 hour, 56 minutes, 30 seconds)
7: Standard Missiles I (50 minutes)
8: Engineering I (13 minutes, 30 seconds)
9: Shield Operation I (13 minutes, 30 seconds)
10: Engineering II (1 hour, 2 minutes, 58 seconds)
11: Engineering III (5 hours, 55 minutes, 56 seconds)
12: Energy Management I (40 minutes, 32 seconds)
13: Energy Management II (3 hours, 8 minutes, 48 seconds)
14: Energy Management III (17 hours, 47 minutes, 56 seconds)
15: Energy Management IV (4 days, 4 hours, 41 minutes, 21 seconds)
16: Afterburner I (14 minutes, 17 seconds)

16 skills; Total time: 6 days, 15 hours, 28 minutes, 57 seconds

total time will change dependent on your attributes, but it won't likely flux more than a day either way.

here's the ship outfit:
4 missile launchers
1 shield booster, 1 after burner
1 warp core stabilizer, 1 power core

the power core is needed before you can fit the AB and the 4th missile launcher, which are needed to make the ship grow from mediocre to potent.

king, dragon: lagerby and I are looking to start training our alts come mid july. Please try to find a good pausing point with your main chars so that you can train up your alts for a week before getting back to your mains.

For you who are just doing 14 day trials, the mid july point is not important. I'll post here ahead of time if we're going to do anything big and fun that you guys should come make another trial account for.

i think ill take a break from training my main char after i finish getting my cruiser ready. then ill start training skills on the other one. its going to take a lot of time and money to get up to a battleship so ill take a break before i do that.

by the way, keep this pirate stuff lip tight, the only people outside us who can know are horatio and drekkan. that's it.

so no more mentions please on the open forums.

thanks!

by the way, my main character is flying his cruiser now, and i only have a few more days of skills to train to round out my cruiser modules before i start training my pirate.

it's going to take me 10 days to be ready (instead of 6) because I put more points in willpower and perception since I'll probably just keep training the pirate into missiles and gang warefare longterm.

After i get my cruiser plat insured I'll start diverting the vast majority of my isk into the pirate corp. Eventually we'll get a good amount of isk and materials from TRTS coffers (funneled by drekkan and horatio), but i want to help everyone with starting equipment as much as possible, along with establishing an office for us.

I mean, we don't need much stocked up to keep rolling, just:

kestrels
standard missile launchers
all 4 varieties of light missiles
small shield boosters
1mn afterburners
powercores
warp stabilizer Is

After you meet the designated combat reqs, if you want to train up to something additional, feel free. Training up to use warp stabber II's is a good idea because it gives you 2 warp strength instead of just 1. (which is good, close range warp destabilizers do -2 strength). While our ships are cheap, the less we lose to other pirates the better.

Another good training goal is light missile expertise and all the skills involved with it.

Since there's no room for warp destabilizers on the kestrel (due to cpu reqs, not space), I'll be flying an ECM frigate. I haven't worked out the details yet, but we can work out the kinks once everyone gets their alts up and running. It should work out since I can lockdown warp from 20km.

i now have all the skills finished except for energy management 2-4. and that just gives more capacitor so as soon as i get a power core i should be able to use my kestrel and everything on it. and ill have energy management 2 and maybe 3 done by tomorrow morning.

nah, the energy management 4 shit is needed to load the power core.

that's the worst part, the price we pay for 4 missile launchers doing 500 m/s

To be fair, smith, to "work on" a skill, you start it, and then it eventually finishes on its own, even if you're not logged in playing the game. He just means it's not finished yet.

Exactly! Like life! Why pay to play a secondary life that you have to pay for? It's not all that better than RL anyway... you find a place, you like that place, you buy a giant car, and while you're driving it home from work a dick in a 1982 Dodge Phantom cuts you off, runs you off the road, plants a bomb in your car, and drives off with your radio.

all mmorpgs are somewhat reminiscent of real life. There's things you have to do to get better, and money to be made. You aren't saving the world, you're just cutting out your own little hole.

That's most mmorpg's problem, there's too much "real life" and not enough game. There's a lot of grinding skills or moneys to get where you want to be, and then when you get there, there's just more shinies you have to have.

Eve is a bit different, the grind is minimal, and the bit there is (mining, traveling) can be done mostly without paying intense attention to the game. It's also intently focused on player to player cooperation in corporations, which really makes the game. Without a half-decent, active corpation, the game indeed sucks.

A few of you guys who've tried it never went on a corp op, never dealt with any of the corp members, and barely went out to do anything with the rest of us in the game. I'm not surprised you didn't like the game at all. It was playing in the corporation with dime and some of the cool kids running it that hooked me, and there are no gabens in the game to make me hate it, so i'm having fun.

Find me another game with no gabens that we can all play together, and I'll be there. if king, dragon and dime all left eve today I'd quit too because I love playing with you guys, but I also hate playing a fucked up game that inherently pisses me off.

So, for me, it's eve until some one finds something else cheaper and as good or better.

bf2 was cool but I get tired of karkand, and it can't entertain me alone over a sandwhich at 1pm.

what's next?

i think i can live with a monthly fee as long as i dont have to pay for the game itself. thats what pisses me off about every other mmorpg. they make you pay for the game and then you have to pay each month to keep playing it. i know i may end up paying more to play this than any other game but its a lot of fun to play. and a lot of the stuff ive done so far has mostly been on my own with some occasional help from agent and dime. i talk to the people in the corp but i do almost all of my missions and pirate hunting on my own. so i know it can only get better when i start doing more stuff with the corp. and of course when i get my raven.

you're such a crazy man, dragon, you love the grind, Mr. I have 6 level 20 guildwars characters.

happy, I know. I never expected you guys to want to pay the monthly fee, which is one of the chief reasons I'm putting this pirate group together. That way you can effectively come pube raid with us for free. All i'd have to do is post here about a weekahead of time. Everyone who wants to come on our raid signs up another free trial, sets their skills to training (which'll only take 6 days), hops in their free ship + modules and then WE RIDE.

And if you survive the raid, well, congrats, lawl. You can give your ship and modules back and we'll call again for the next one, and if it's longer than a week away, you can just make another char. It's not like you have to train logged in, anyway.

Yeah

I still liked it... and that one night we (Agent, Dragon, Wardryer) went out ratting it was fun, and then the night I lost my Coercer with Sigurd and Skullbearer it was fun...

So maybe I'll get a Kestrel and join you guys when you decide to raid.

something else on the monthly fee:

bf2: 50 dollars
SF: 30
EU: 10
total:
90 dollars (not including tax or necessary computer upgrades)

first month of eve: 20 bucks
six months: 71.70
total:
91.70 (tax included and no computer upgrades necessary)

Further:
Hardware upgrades purchased for BF2:
used Joystick: 20
used Radeon 9800 pro: worth 150, was luckily a gift
512 megs of ram: 30
total:
About 50, unless you include the worth of the card.

I played BF2 from mid feb until mid may. 4 months. And I spent 98 hours logged in.

Now, you tell me where I'm getting the better deal. 4 months for 140 bucks, or 7 for $91.70??

This doesn't even include raw hour comparison, but suffice it to say that i play eve way more per week than i did bf2.

Granted, if you already have a powerful system, and you don't buy any bf2 upgrades like SF or the other crap they want to sell, and you play it consistently until they release bf2142, then, in that case, it would indeed be less expensive than Eve. But that's far from my case.

So don't knock monthly fees until you've actually done the math, kthx.

p.s.
monthly fees means the company doesn't need to release addons and sequels that will fragment the community like happend to UT, CS, and BF. So you can have a consistently growing, massive, population. Eve is produced by CCP, and it is their only game and their only income. They are financially obligated to care deeply for the game and their customers.
