Personal authenticity




What is my definiton of Personal authenticity? This is a question that has to be given a lot of thought in order
to come up with a viable answer. You can't look this term up in the dictionary. If you asked someone on the street
what they thought it ment, they would surley have no answer. I have summed up my opinion of what I think it means
in the following essay.

Personal authenticity to mean will be based on several aspects of one's life. A lot of rhetorical questions come to mind.
Am I my own person? Do I mimic other cliches? Am I apart of a cliche? Do I have any shred of character in my person?
What makes a person become non-authentic? By answering these questions, I can help solve this riddle of terms.

Am I my own person? This question brings me to a few questions and answers that I can give myself. I do not look to make
myself in the direct image of another human being, fictional or non-fictional. Do I mimic or choose to act and look like
a certain celebrity or politician? No, I do not. I might decide to aggree with some viewpoints or ways of life as several
famous people, but I do not choose to mimic them making me somewhat of a clone in the eyes of others.

I will give an example of the closest I believe someone could get to being inauthentic. You may have noticed many girls
these days who attempt to look, talk, feel, move, and act like the same person. The term given to these girls is known as
"the clones". They are described as blond hair, very high matenance, pretty faces, and they all wear the same outfits with
minor atlerations. They will attempt in every way to be inauthentic as I would define this term. Yet, put them in an
extraordinary situation and they will surley act differently based on their true beliefs and experiences. I would go as far
as to say that they can't be inauthentic or clones as hard as they might try.

Another example of a "close call" would be the infamous hasbeen actor Cory Feldmen. Cory Feldmen was an 80's actor in a lot
of teenage and younger target audience movies. With his fame came money and status. He became friends with the musician we
know as Micheal Jackson. Cory became obsessed with Micheal Jackson and started to wear the same type of clothing that was uniqe
to Micheal alone. He even started to change his hair to copy his favorite singer. This ultimatley came to a crashing defeat
as Cory got into drugs and fell hard from the pinnacle of his success. Does that make Cory Feldmen Personal inauthentic? My
answer to that question will be a hard no.
Even though Cory copied every aspect of Mike, he still had his own thoughts and perceptions. He since has got back into acting
and has changed back into his own person.

I then think about twins that often speak in unison. You can ask them a question and they will both answer you at the same time
with the same answer. They even look the same. They dress the same. They are almost inseperable. Yet if you took one of the
twins and removed her to another part of the world, what would happen. Different experiences would start to shape that persons
character in a different matter. That person would inevitaboly become authentic. Do I think that person wasn't authentic to
begin with? My answer is no. Even though they are exactly alike, they are still different entities thus making them authentic.

In conclusion; I will denounce the term Personal authenticity. It means nothing to me so I choose to ignore it as a label
of any kind. A person can not be authentic. A person can not be unauthentic. In fact, the only way I see any way this label
could every apply to anyone; is if they were cloned, making the origional person authentic personally and physically, where as
the clone would be a copy. Your own personal experiences, thoughts, and perceptions make you your own person. You might even
mimic another human being, but inevitably you are authentic no matter what you do. ROFL
