So my current lease is up on July 1 and I can't renew it so I've been apartment shopping. Please study my notes closely and give opinions...or ban. First off a pair of guys I know might offer me their basement. Pros: Nice house Nice roommates (4 of them) Biggest TV I have ever seen Rent = 1400/5 + utilities/5 = ~350 to 380..or something (lol math) Cons: Basement room with no windows Laundry room and garage are both connected to the room so I would get zero privacy. Next all the apts I looked at. Apt 1: Ghettoville Pros: Rent = 435 + All utilities + internet = ~$who knows Close to work Cheapest place I found Cons: It's kinda a shithole Kinda far from school Apt 2: Fucking sweet but pricey Pros: Rooms are fucking huge (double the size of any of the other places) Indoor heated pool open all year Close to work Cons: Kinda far from school Laundry rooms are retarded Have to decide on this place by Sunday Rent = 560 to 580 + electric + internet = ~most expensive place I looked Apt 3: Niiiice Pros: Rooms are brand new and nice Washer/dryer IN each room (awesome) I have a good friend who already lives there Landlords and other employees are SMOKING HOT (dayum!) Close to school Close to work Cons: Rent is almost as much as Apt 2 but rooms are smaller No deck ![]() Small outside pool ![]() ok laaaawl, thanks bros also what is normal rent+utils+internet for a one bedroom place? |

I pay 218 a month and live with 2 other guys. In my experience, and this is just me, I've always liked living with people a lot more. I'd personally go with house 1, it's the cheapest plus roommates. |

I'd go with the basement, who cares if they walk in on you during solitaire. |

apt prices vary hugely with each city, and then within the city. i live in a 476 sq ft room, not apartment, ROOM, it's an efficiency. i pay 430. Generally, in austin, 1 dollar to 1 sq foot is a decent price. I've had experience with most of your options, in some way or another. Living far from work/school can suck balls, but it depends. How often do you go to one or the other? If it's 5 days a week for both, yea, you don't want to be far. BUt if you bus to school, it'll take forever to get there anyway, so a little extra distance isn't a big deal. Also, you're not paying for gas. Also, i would worry less about distance and more about rush hour traffic. Which location will force you into it in your schedule? While pricey apartments are nice, what the fuck are you going to do with all that space? Are you a big swimmer? Cause sure a pool is nice, but if you're not using the extra space and you swim twice in the summer, you just paid 100 a month for 3 hours of swimming. I mean, honestly, what do you use a pool for? Put your girl on the edge and float around? You don't need a big pool for that. Sucks about the deck, and lack of grilling . . . but you could always stash it in your closet, and bring it down by the pool? Or use theirs? How big a griller are you? get a george foreman. |
