Who is [ __ ] voting for and why?

I myself am voting for Ron Paul because: He wants to end the war, plain and simple. I also enjoy his libertarian leanings. seeing that is the party I can most relate to.

I question his motives in abolishing much of the departments, federal reserve, etc., because I don't understand the total implications of him doing so.

Politics is stupid bullshit. I don't like any of the dozen or so rich people placed before the public as the only options for election by the other rich people who decide whom America gets to vote for. Also, my calendar may be in error, but it seems it's 2007 and the election is in fucking 2008, so fuck all the candidates for jumping out of the gates extra early with their spending millions on campaigns.

In other words, go ahead and post here, but I may bitterly and/or viciously mock you or the candidate you support.

You know, I agree with you Hogg. I think most of us do, but this is the world we live in today, apathy cannot fix the situation in which we live today. I think most democracies in the first world are much the same. So why not find someone that most closely aligns with what you believe and vote, ya know?

It isn't apathy that motivates me not to vote for anyone, and in the past I've done what you said. But if the only available candidates support things that go against my conscience, I won't vote for them.

Those most important to you. For me, it is: the war, legal status of abortion, rights for gays to marry, the limitations of our freedom through legistlation and executive orders, secret prisons run by our government, the federal deficit, and the North American Union.

How about you?

Life issues are pretty big to me. Abortion = no, death penalty = no (unless absolutely necessary for the protection of society, which I can't imagine being the case in this country), embryonic stem cell research = no, euthanasia = no, torture = no, war = bad (unless there's grave and imminent reason for it).

Gay marriage = no.

Big Brother = bad.

As for economics and stuff, honestly, the above is more important to me when it comes to voting and conscience, and there are no candidates who get that stuff right (at least, none of the two who may actually be elected). I can go for the least of evils, or I can write in someone whom I actually fully support, but the former is just concession to the continuing degradation of respect for human life (etc.), and the latter is useless.

Sounds good, you know your position, why not at least find a candidate close to your own opinions. In my personal belief the only way you will ever find a candidate that has the same views as you is when you yourself run. So in order for democracy to work we have to find the people that are closest to our own personal beliefs.

wow so this forum went all bill oreiley and shit.

I dont vote, i have a BA in political science but i still dont vote LOL.

personally i dont 1 cause im lazy and like not ever having jury duty. but 2 i dont believe in voting for the president because the voting system is designed around the average person being an idiot and set up for a small group to decide what they want. This can and did happen in 2000 where the popular vote did not win and until there is no electoral college i will never vote.

Agreed. Unless you live in Maine or Nebraska, your state's method of awarding electoral votes is stupid as fuck.

well, i have to agree with the notion that the average person is an idiot; however, still you can play some role and get out there and vote so electoral voter representing your area can vote in your favor.

you forgot the key word. If the electoral voter represents the vote. He is under no obligation to do so. that is why they are there, so that if the uneducated masses want the wrong person elected then the educated elite can pick the "right" person. hence my aversion to voting at all.

I have heard that the electoral college can elect whoever they want and I was just reading wiki about it but I couldn't find reference to how the electoral college decides their vote.. It could be that im tired, i dunno, but do u have links by any chance supporting that? I have heard this over and over again and would like to settle this controversy in my head.

that electoral college nonsense.. while by law, they CAN pick who they want, they'll always pick in accordance with their state.

if texas throws 4 million votes at kinky friedman and 1 million votes at penis mcslappypants, the electoral college will vote in favor of kinky friedman.
