The Day The Earth Stood Still

Rating---SHIT

Reason:
1. The U.N. is recognized by Aliens as the speakers for the planet.
2. Sidewinder missiles are used repeatedly against ground targets.
3. Aliens are going to kill us because of global warming.
4. The U.S. attacks anything on site apparently.
5. It had to throw in people being affected by the Iraq war in a horrible way.
6. The kid was a little shit who did not listen to his guardian. If my kid ever opened a car door to go take a piss without asking me first, I would beat his ass.

Afterthought:
A worldwide EMP would kill about 95% of the entire planet anyways due to massive food/medicine/heating shortages.

Public Enemies:

Rating----OK

Reason:
While I've seen Depp and Bale do excellent work, this movie did not approach their standards. THe director has had some solid work too, michael mann. So I don't know what went wrong. Maybe they just all got fucking lazy.

Story was good though. But the accents were weird and the characters were very difficult to emphasize with. As in, impossible. I was completely unconcerned with any of them staying alive. In fact, I was hoping they'd all die really early so I would get to stop watching them. I hated every character in the film except the old texas ranger type guy at the end. He was cool.

Waltz with Bashir

Rating= Good

Plot- A former Israeli soldier tries to piece together his memories of his involvment in the 1982 Lebanon War some 20 years after the events by talking to friends and former comrades.

Why i liked it
1. Its animated
2. Its a documentary
3. Foreign films make my farts smell better

Bottom Line- The film is contraversial, stylish and emotionally stirring.

Watched Tron here. It cost a whole 4 dollars.

Rating-shit

The movie was all cg and action. The motorcycles didn't even make 90 degree turns. Users had no apparent powers except the origional dad. Programs did not drink electricity. Plot utter garbage. Basically put they did to tron what they did to star trek, made it an enjoyable movie for people who have no idea what the previous film,s had established for. Also no plot.

Newest star trek was good. Did a good job of updating (i.e. yes, not 100% true to the origionals, but much more widely appealing and all around entertaining).

Next: 'Day the earth stood still': reasons it sucked: add: "Had keanu reeves not ina matrix movie". I think that was kinda the start and end of his decent movie career.

Lastly: "Easy A". Actually a really decent movie. Wife and I laughed our way throughout. Decent for personal viewing, definate hit for date movie (enjoyable by both male and female).

Star Trek: i'm actually slowly rewatching the origional movies, and they are hilarious and interesting. Hilarious acting and special effects, interesting plots and storylines. Its sorta like doing historical research on a topic that interests me. They are such a part of pop-culture, its kinda neat to see where all the punchlines and stuff came from.

Easy A: Agree on all points. Solid rental. Wife enjoyed.

sucked, compared to what? The original tron? to inception? To loony toons? I mean, it's a 2010 disney sequel to a movie from the 80s, for fuck's sake.

It wasn't life changing, sure, but it was worth ten bucks to see in 3d.

Visuals were interesting. I thought they did a good job of keeping all the glowy shit from tron but still making it look good. Story dovetailed nicely with what I know of the originial tron, and was a good basis for lots of action.

Character development was thin but at least it existed. Acting and writing was good enough I cared about the characters, even though i recall at least 2 moments of "how can you be that dumb."

Sucked compared to my standard of good movies.

Style over substance.

I love that movie and I don't know why. I guess due to all the great quotes.
