Okay, maybe one of you guys (cough smith cough) can help me diagnose a little problem I've been having. My installation of W7 went great (once I got a non-corrupted version burned to a DVD), but I'm running into a graphics glitch. Windows isn't viewing my monitor as PnP, classifying it instead as a "Generic Non-PnP Monitor". This in turn (I think) is forcing my resolution to three options: ![]() Now, I thought this might be a driver issue, so I installed numerous versions of the drivers for my video card, a GeForce 8800 GTS. Nothing worked. In fact, when I take a look at the drivers being used for my card, I see this, which is perplexing: ![]() It's almost as if W7 ignored my driver installation completely, and is using some native, outdated software instead. However, what I find strange is that I'm able to access what seems to be a current version of the NVIDIA Control Panel. Anyone have any ideas? I'm at my wit's end. |

Dime: the biggest pro for me with win7 was that i did not have to download a single driver... everything worked automagically. That being said, my driver properties say "Driver date 7/14/2009 Driver version 8.15.11.9038" and I know I installed the nvidia driver cause I have the control panel also... so I'm not sure. Are you connected with VGA or DVI? |

I'm on DVI. I tinkered a bit more and found that, regardless of my resolution, all my games worked fine. So this is considerably less of an issue now - I guess I'll just wait for a fix to present itself. |

So bought a new laptop for the wife (with windows 7 on it) and ended up taking it to the school I'm at for the next couple weeks. Really like the OS but still havent figure'd out how to fix the problem that resulted in me taking it. When I first brought it home and tried to connect it to our home wireless network I couldn't get it to go. Right now running an old DLink wireless router with 128-bit WEP encryption (only capable of WEP, either 64 or 128-bit). For some reason I can recognize the network, see that it's there, and tell the computer to connect but it never gives the me the option of inputting the security key. I've also manually built the connection (specificing network, encryption type, key, etc) but can't figure out how to tell the computer to actually connect to that network. Anyone got ideas? |

Don't use WEP? |

Yeah, that's the only solution I've come up with (buying a new wireless router) |

I can't think of any good reason that would happen, but we can try some stuff when you get back. Although, if it's old enough to not have WPA it's probably time to replace. |

Yo Brady, If I download a pirated version of this ish I'll be able to run it all normal like as if it was a legit copy? I don't know shit about these computers... I just want to play games dammit! I want new shit dammit! How do I back my shit up and install this on XP without being a huge pain in the ass and in simple layman (retard) terms I can understand! DAMMIT! Brandon P.S. Why do I not see the hidden forums? I'll classify this as a mistake and overlook it for now. |

Thanks Boss. Ok, now that's out of the way. Should I just try and find a torrent of the Windows 7 .iso files and then a crack and go from there? Any advice on backing up the information I have on my harddrives? Brandon |

I don't know anything about the copyright protection on Windows 7. I direct you to my lord and savior, Google, for answers. |
