Ok, going to start this game for the first time after work.

First character suggestions in regards to class and whatnot?

I know I'm late to the party.

Soldier for your first playthrough.

Amp the difficulty up, and don't delete your save files, as ME2 will build part of it's story around your actions in ME.

Agent rage due to a coat hanger-thin shaft?
Surely slander.

And already done at 3pm on Saturday. Lots of fun, very good game. Just a little lacking in longevity.

most good stories are not meant to be read twice, unless you are Tolkien.

Tolkien is good, Robert Jordan was better.

Tolkein was boring (mad props for creating modern Fantasy).

Robert Jordan was great for the first few books but man did that shit get old after while and go nowhere.

You want AMAZING fantasy read some Gene Wolfe.

Or pick up some awesome sci-fi and grab any of The Culture Novels by Iain M. Banks or better yet anything by Neal Stephenson.

Robert Heinlein is a bad ass.

agree on heinlein.

also agree 1st few robert jordan were good, but then he was obviously dragging things out and milking the series for every penny it could get, to the detriment of the story. i'm glad he died.

He went from micro (in the first few novels) to macro (by 5-6) to absolutely fucking huge (9-10). He was just trying to cover all events across a world at war in the same detail as he started with. He had it planned as a 12-13 book series early on (saw that mentioned back in the mid-90's). I've read all the way through 11, havent gotten to 12 yet, and 13 in still being written by his replacement based on his notes and outline. It's an outstanding world and story, just a pain in the ass to keep track of everyone and everything that's going on.

Will definately check out the others though, been on a military reading kick, but getting tired of hearing how great everyone describes themselves as.

i call bullshit on jordan. When you write in the resurrection of a handful of main bad guys, you're not just "trying to cover all the events across a world war." You're fucking dragging it out.

There wasn't even foreshadowing that it would happen. I felt like he just crapped it on you to set you back and write more books. I kept reading, giving him a chance, but the story got slower and slower and slower and I finally quit at winter's heart.

I agree on the resurrection thing (also goes hand-in-hand with the "dark side of the force" thing), on the positive side all the resurrected characters still haven't done a damn thing by the end of book 11 but sit in purgatory and get scared of huge-eyeless-guy. He finally resolved a couple story lines at the end of 11 (dont remember if that's winter's heart or the one after); still plenty more to go but at least some things are finally finishing off.

Regardless of new/unfinished/idiotic-seeming storylines I still appreciate the style of writing. He's very good at telling a story and has created a very detailed, unique world unlike any other. I dont really care how long/how many books he was going, so long as he maintained the same level of writing. Reading is all about the entertainment value, and I'm wonderfully entertained by Jordan's stuff.

And re-routing this thread: Just finished off ME2. Outstanding game, one of the best RPG's I've played in a long, long time. Now where the hell is the end of the trilogy?

Mass Effect 3 releases on March 6th.

However: you can get it at B&M's, through Origin, even through Bestbuy online crap...just NOT through steam as EA continues their BF3 faggitry.
Quote:
Much like other recent Electronic Arts game releases on PC, Mass Effect 3 will not be available through Steam. And regardless of what format you decide to get the game in -- digital or physical -- Origin is a requirement for playing.

In a post on the BioWare forums by community man Chris Priestly, some frequently-asked questions regarding the PC version of Mass Effect 3 (launching on March 6 for PC and consoles) were addressed. Regarding a release on Steam, it's said that "during initial release" the digital version will be available through Origin and "a number of other 3rd party digital retailers," Steam not being among them
