I am going to be getting $400-$500 in walmart gift cards and if my parents decide they don't want to buy it off me, I am going to be wreckless and buy stuff. So: 1) PS3 or LCD TV? The main dillemma with getting the PS3 first is there is only one HDTV I have access to and I won't be able to use it when I want. If the TV I have extra questions: 1) I know Samsung is good, but are there other brands that are good and will last also, maybe a bit cheaper? 2) In the 30"-40" range, will there be a big difference between 720p and 1080p? 60Hz and 120Hz? Different combinations of those? I'd much rather put the money towards my debt, but I may be forced to indulge. |

disclamer: i haven't done much research, just hearsay from living with guys who have bought 3 big ass hdtvs and 3 PlayStations. Quote: 1) PS3 or LCD TV?
LCD TV. Computers are for games. all your gaming friends have computers. what are you going to do with a ps3 and no hdtv and no ps3 friends??Quote: 1) I know Samsung is good, but are there other brands that are good and will last also, maybe a bit cheaper?
No.Quote: 2) In the 30"-40" range, will there be a big difference between 720p and 1080p? 60Hz and 120Hz? Different combinations of those?
1080p isn't useful until you get to mid 40s. 120hz is never useful unless you have the rare sports channel that transmits in 120hz and you actually care about the sports on it.Quote: I'd much rather put the money towards my debt, but I may be forced to indulge.
I'd buy a bigger monitor. Or an equal sized monitor and dual screen it. It would cost you a fraction of the cost of a TV and possibly get as much use (more if you are me.) You can put the rest toward debt.

I have a 50" samsung. I have been pissed off at them for years as my DLP chip died and they would not fix it. They fixed it last week for free finally as it was a defect. |

I've got a pair of Sharp's, 52(1080p) and 32(720p), that I've been really pleased with. Of course I can't notice that much different between different brands when I'm looking at a store display wall anyway...so much of it comes down to how well you do the color settings and such. |

AKA WAL-MART TVLCD's break eventually. I would rather a walmart tv that i can't tell isnt a Sony Bravia... that way when it breaks I can lawl and go drop another $600 instead of $2300. I'm rocking a 42" Olevia 1080p that brand new 2 yrs. ago cost less than Rob's monthly alcohol budget (>$650). If Lawlina puts a mop handle thru it eventually (several near misses already), I will just shop another sweet deal. |

Ok, now to hijack this thread a little bit. I'm looking buy a better monitor since I built a new computer over the New Years. Thing is... I'm not really sure what I need to be looking for. Right now I've got a 21in with no HDMI connection. What should I be looking for when looking at monitor's? Brandon EDIT: I also got a 42in Vizio from Price Club for ~$650. 1080p and all that jazz. Badass TV on the cheap. |

here is the monitor i have: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6824009157 Quote: Screen Size 21.5"
you should be able to get better than them for less than 200.Widescreen Yes Maximum Resolution 1920 x 1080 Recommended Resolution 1920 x 1080 Viewing Angle 170°(H) / 160°(V) Pixel Pitch 0.248mm Display Colors 16.7 Million Brightness 300 cd/m2 Contrast Ratio 20000:1 Response Time 5ms Horizontal Refresh Rate 30-80Khz Vertical Refresh Rate 55-75Hz Input Video Compatibility Analog RGB, Digital Connectors D-Sub, DVI, HDMI Higher contrast ratio means better and more accurate blacks. you know what the rest means, i assume. if not, ask. |

Right on man. I think right now I'll just wait on a sell for one at Fry's but I have been looking at some Acers on Newegg. Honestly it might be fine if I just stick with the one I have I guess unless one comes out real cheap since it's the same size. Difference is it lacks HD and it also doesn't go up to 1920 x 1080. I can't tell if it will make a big difference to upgrade or if I'm just looking to throw some money at a new toy. Brandon |

Fry's will almost never have a better deal than what you can find online, especially once you factor in tax. Dell sometimes has good deals on their monitors and you might get lucky with TigerDirect, assuming the Bing Cashback is still around 15%. Brandon I wouldn't recommend Newegg for monitors due to their horrible dead-pixel policy. |

Bah... I appreciate all the advice but I'm really bad at all this shit. I'm not so sure I absolutely need a new monitor right now but I'll keep an eye out on those websites and keep checking TD. Thanks. Brandon |
