Early next week, Gibeault and three friends will put into action the most outlandish escape fantasy short of flying to the moon: They’re driving 2,300 miles to a 5.152-acre patch of dirt in the west Texas borderlands, 18 miles from the nearest town, to live off the land for at least a year. They call it “Texarrakis,’’ a reference to the desert planet in “Dune.’’

In Texarrakis’s founding myth, charismatic ringleader Gene Atwood, 28, of Watertown bought the land off eBay in 2003 for $550 plus $100 in fees. He put it on his mom’s credit card.

To live outside the bounds of normal society and civilization...without the daily requirements and obligations that come with living in a large metropolitan area. adventure. a more human life, as opposed to being cradled by civilization.

Consider donating money to them. They're not lazy people, they've been working jobs, saving up money, but any supplementary money they can get, the more they can produce out there. The more they can create. The more they can live.

They're going to last about a week.

Does society suck or does just the part that doesn't give them money suck? They indicate that money is necessary for creation, but given enough money and a long enough timeline, then eventually wouldn't they just be creating another city? And if that happened, then wouldn't some other fag wannabes have to set out on their own to do their own attention whoring?

And why not 5 acres, or "about 5.2 acres"...is that extra 10 square feet of land going to make that much of a difference? It sounds like a bunch of (previously mentioned) attention whores who plan to go camping and smoke weed for a couple of weeks. And they're asking for donations to pay for it.
