As some of you know I've been working through a bunch of video card issues recently. I purchased an EVGA 280GTX in Jan of 2009. Worked great until Feb/Mar timeframe, then started giving me issues. I've gotten outstanding support from them (all replies in < 12 hrs, in good english, with clear and helpful instructions). Even though it's outside of the 1 yr warrenty they still agreed to a one time replacement.

I've gotta say, I'm now a firm believer in the the company...will gladly purchase as many components from them as possible for every build from here on out (given no major policy changes). Highly recommended!

Q: Just purchased battlefield bad company 2. After loading my first game I found the menu's worked fine, but on loading into my first game within 10-30 seconds the screen froze up with much of it pixulating and turning partly pink. This has been the same issue since. I've updated graphics drivers, sound drivers, directx, played with every graphics setting, sound setting I can find or think of. I've even gone into txt editing of some of the games files under suggestion of forums. Nothing has worked (started this process yesterday afternoon, total of about 8hrs into it now). In the last hour I just tried to load left4dead2, and on loading into a game it immediately gave me the same problem (has been working flawlessly since november until now). As soon as it freezes I get either intermitten or no sound, and cannot get off that screen (alt-tab, ctrl/alt/del, etc don't work). Only way out is to restart the computer. Getting a little frustraited here. Please help! Here are links to pictures I have taken of the screen after freezing: http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af2 ... 0_1102.jpg http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af2 ... 0_1100.jpg

A: If you are getting random characters, spots, blocks, glitches, pixilation, dots, textures, tears, lines and/or items on the screen, it may be that you might be experiencing some artifacting. You can download ATItool and run a scan test for artifacting. http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/ You might have a power issue that may be contributing. You are going to want to double check the voltage on the 12 volt rail in the bios. . Please enter your BIOS and look for one of the following menus: Hardware Monitor, HW Monitor, System Monitor, or PC Health Status. In this menu should be a live rating on the +12V. If this falls between 11.96V and 12.35V then your power supply is in proper working order. If does not, then please test your system with a different power supply that meets the requirements of the card. Next you want to check for temperature issues, verify that you are not over heating or running extremely warm. You might want to download EVGA Precision that you can find right on our website. This utility allows you to monitor the temps on your card. A typical idle temp for graphics cards would be 45-58c and 55-100c under load. Please let us know your findings. If the above checks out and is in spec, then it may be the graphics card needs to be replaced. Thank you, EVGA

Q: Following up to tech support reply from JaysonC (reply 03/10/2010 5:41:22 AM). Jayson, Here are the results of what you asked me to try out. Checked the BIOS and monitored the +12V rail for a little over a minute. Voltage ranged from 12.10V-12.18V (those were the extremes), so well within acceptable limits. Downloaded the ATITool you recommended. It installed and loaded, but every time I asked it to test it caused the computer to crash (same issue as games: screen pixelates, sound ceases, comp locks up). Tried that 3 times all with the same result. Then downloaded and installesd the EVGA Precision program. Again installed great, opens up just fine and appears to monitor my card just fine. Idle card temp was between 47-50 C the 4 times I ran it. Then I tried to place the card under some load. I quickly discovered that opening any other program (windows media player, internet explorer, etc) all cause the computer to crash immediately while this program is open. IE and WMP work perfectly fine when Precision is not loaded (have both running right now) but with Precision on anything else I open immediately causes the computer to again pixelate the screen and crash. I know that's not great results for a clearly defined problem, but I don't know what else I can do. Let me know! Thanks, Brian

A: I’m sorry to hear about these issues you are having, based on your findings you are going to want to submit for an RMA replacement. All the information for RMA can be found on the website at www.evga.com/rma. To help you submit for the RMA you will need to log in to your member account and go to your “view/edit my products” page and submit for the RMA there. Under the product in question, there will be a button in your product’s page listing under the “product details” section of that product that says “view details” click on that. It will then take you to a section to confirm your address. Please confirm your information and continue with the RMA. Fill out the information on the proceeding page about your product and enter the ticket number provided below for your submission. Once successfully submitted you will be given an RMAID confirmation number. Once EVGA receives your RMA submission request the RMA will be reviewed by our RMA department within one (1-2) business days for RMA Approval. In order to approve your RMA, EVGA will need a copy of the purchase invoice or receipt for the product you need replaced. This invoice must be uploaded to your product page. If you have already uploaded the invoice disregard uploading it. To learn more about how to upload your invoice, please see our FAQ: http://www.evga.com/support/faq/afmview ... aqid=58652. Tech: Jayson Cane Question Date: 03/15/2010
Q: Following up to support by Jayson C (3/11/2010 6:11:59 AM): Jayson, Thanks a lot for all the help, however my issue seems to have resolved itself. I really have no idea what has changed or how. I sent you my last message last Wednesday night and then for shits and giggles decided to see just how broke my computer was. I began to run through all the different programs installed on my computer just to see what all would cause it to crash and try to further narrow down the issue. To my utter amazement everything started working perfectly again. The only things I changed/did different was to install the couple of test programs you recommended (that subsequently crashed on trying to run). Magically my entire computer got over itself and decided to work again, and has worked flawlessly regardless of what I've thrown at it (maxed out settings in video heavy games; running that in a windowed mode with IE and whatever else I can think of to run at the same time, etc. Basically everything is working great again and I can't get it to crash. The 'sudden fix' has me wondering if it's maybe an issue with the card yet (don't think it would revert to working well again, but don't really know) or more likely some kind of software conflict that has somehow been resolved. As things are working now I'll stick with the card, but can you please tie these emails back to my account in case the problem reoccurs? Thanks again for all the help, Brian

A: Hi Brian, I am glad it is working now. All of these e-mails are recorded under the serial number they are submitted under so if there is any further issues we can see the previous communication. If you have any further issues please contact us back as soon as you can so we can work to resolve the issue. Thanks, EVGA
Tech: Matthew Moser Question Date: 04/18/2010
Q: Hello again! For whoever answers this, please read previous chain of comms about this video card. It's gone back to doing it's bullshittery again (exact same problem as before, pinkish pixulation of screen in less then 5 sec anytime the card is put under load) and I can't get anything but IE to work again now. It was off an on for the last month or so (would start to crash but various things seemed to temporarily 'fix' it, like uninstalling/reinstalling the video card, removing the card from the system, cleaning, and reinserting, just removing the side from the case, simple restarts, shutting down for a day and then trying again, or even just switching to a different game), however as of today I can get absolutely nothing but windows and IE to work. If possible I think it's time to turn this card in and try again. Please let me know, and thanks. Brian

A: Currently your product is now out of warranty. The documentation that comes with the product does indicate the warranty policy and where to find further details on it. Although we are beyond your warranty, we could issue you a one-time replacement this time on the product. We will need an invoice from the place of purchase. If you can get this we could extend the one-time to you. Note this replacement will NOT be under any warranty since the original is out of warranty. Please let us know if this is something we can work out and we will gladly set it up for you. We definitely would like to help you out. Thank you, EVGA

Any company that couples porn with it's video cards deserves a fucking medal.
