ROB: I heard that you sat down and watched the Aliens (Sigourny Weaver Style) series for the first time recently. How was it
finally watching some of the best sci-fi movies ever made?

If you watch Aliens you must watch the director's cut. One of the best movies ever.

i think i am watching the directors cut. of sort- I watched Alien last weekend and it was fucking badass. I have Aliens special edition here that I borrowed from my roommates' Aliens Legacy 4-dvd pack. Haven't had a chance to pop it in though, too much BC2, Borderlands, and this book called The Black Company.

But the fact that I actually have it out to watch and will watch it in under a week is a big deal for me. I never fucking watch movies. But Alien was worth the time investment, so I will definitely be finishing the series.

then i'm going to play Alien Swarm again on INSANE MODE and get father than mission 2 this time.

I'm not certain, but I think you have to watch "The director's cut" in order to get all the cool shit they left out of the original. As in the sentry guns and other bad ass stuff that had no business being cut from the original. I think the best way to find out is the running time length. From word of mouth a guy told me they used to try to cut down movies to close to an hr for no specific reason back then.

The legacy 4-pack is the same one I bought, and includes both versions of all movies. It's definately worth watching the directors cut, espically for the 2nd movie, and adds a little to the 3rd.

As a warning, the 1st movie is good, the 2nd is friggen action/horror genious. Don't expect the 3rd to be anything like the 2nd...it's taken me awhile to gain an appreciation for it. The 4th is....well, it's got some cool parts.

On the plus side the couple Alien vs Predator movies (AvP and AvP: Requiem) give some more alien goodness to a greater or lessor extent.

The AvP movies insulted the series.

Ultros you will be jealous. I actually bought the quadrology dvd set in China so I have a sweet set of Alien DVDs and cases that are all written in Chinese. And yet the movies default to English playback with no subtitles :D

Where did you get that? Is it in the comic book sleeve looking package? Pirated from hell?

I bought it in Shanghai. As far as I can tell it is a legit localization of the Quadrology box set.

The 2nd is by far my favorite (on the all-time list even).
The extended version's pacing falls a bit off, but the added overall development makes for a much better movie.

To be fair the 3rd has a fantastic premise, some pretty good acting (not by all, but by some) and a solid enough story. It's really underrated.

Dime, Agent, Superspck, and I did a runthrough of this today. Damn I miss the awesomeness of this game.

Also finding some additional content. Check http://swarmarmory.com/ for additional content. I've seen a couple differnet rollup's of various mappacks, but too much alcohols today to maketrue sense of it. Anyone have opinions?

Saw this on Steam:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/265590/

Looks like 8-player Alien Swarm w/ random level generator. Still early access right now , so very much in development, but I have hopes.

Quote:
About This Game
The Red Solstice is a tactical, 8-player, co-op survival game set in the distant future on Mars.

One game session can last up to one hour, during which players can roam freely over huge maps, completing randomized objectives and dealing with random events.
The goal is to try to survive and conquer by any means necessary. Get stronger every time. Level up to unlock new weapons and abilities. Try to survive the storm.
Key features
Take the Lead: Issue commands and set waypoints and objectives for your friends as you outsmart and outgun your way through the derelict domiciles of Tharsis.
Play Your Way, Together: With support for 8-player co-op, play as one of 8 distinct, customizable classes. Each with unique abilities and traits.
Odd Jobs: Tackle an onslaught of randomly generated events with just one hour to make your mark. From zone defense to supply retrieval, you’re never short of enemies to kill and objectives to complete.
Earn and Learn: Kill to earn experience points and unlock new abilities and classes. Heal allies, deploy turrets, launch grenades, set traps and much, much more.
Game NOT Over, Man: Killing ain’t easy. Drive back untold Martian horrors in multiple modes, maps and difficulties and get stronger every time. Even if you perish.

looks cool, would drop 30-40 when released if it has metacritic average in the high 70s.
