ok dudes, we seriously need to schedule a 1 day Civ 5 battle royal.

Ultros and I played today and it was quite awesome. After his inevitable betrayal he was unable to take over my island with his minutemen/cannon army. My swordsmen (yeah sowrds>guns) cut them down no problem and then my superior navy killed all the troops that we still in the water.

Civ 5 rocks.
Superior navy as in 1 ship and it is all part of my greater plan.

Why don't we all just play Risk instead? It's cheaper because everyone in existence already has a copy. Also it is equally boring as hell and time consuming.

Dibs on yellow, though.
Smoke I thought you was a nerd?

Risk is for nerd noobs. Axis and allies come much closer to what we are dealing with.
I *am* a nerd, however not everyone owns Axis and Allies. I have never met a person or family that doesn't own Risk.

Me! Own both the actual boardgame and once had a copy of the digital version too. Network code was shit though...wish they'd do an online 'login-in and play flash game' type...Loved this one, was always just tough finding people willing to play for several hours.

I played through the Civ 5 demo. Apparently they think 100 turns of play against the computer is enough to convince me to buy the game. Incorrect. I was bored, and didn't have a chance to kill anything other than barbarians.

I'm sure it's rewarding once you get deeper into the battle, but I'm just not willing to put that may hours into a game most days. In FPS or RTS games I can jump in and be slaying shit in a few minutes. Another issue is I have to think entirely too much at work so a game this strategy-heavy would only be good for my days off. If you guys are still playing regularly in a couple months I'll pick it up, but I'm gonna hold off for now.

I don't always play strategy games, but when i do, it's a Civ.

p.s.
never played risk. not a big fan of bored games outside of "chutes and ladders" and "candyland". Pretty sure when I got smart enough to play risk i had already started wasting bitches in the face thanks to the Descent demo that came on my Acer computer.

As for the demo, you know you could sign up for the Internet's try-before-you-buy program.

Moving planes to aircraft carriers is bugged badly.
Finally got the giant death robot and the nuclear missile.

Remove Civ Intro Movie:
Quote:
Navigate to My Documents/My Games/Sid Meier's Civilization V/
Look for the file "Usersettings.ini" and open it in a text editor like Notepad
Search for the variable "SkipIntroVideo = 0"
Change the 0 to 1
Enjoy your shiny, intro vid free Civ!

yea that solution just gives me a black screen for the duration of the movie. If I click my mouse the black screen goes to the usual ESRB notice.

I'm thinking that it doesn't actually disable the movie at all, just stops it from displaying. which is better than the annoying movie but not a big help.

update:
Yea i even busted out the stop watch to be sure. Everything loads at 20 seconds for me, even if I delete the movie file. :(

SO we need to make like sunday afternoon or some time to play for an hr at a time with a lot of us. The biggest problem I see with playing with a ton of people is having us all there at the same time.

RE: Battle Royale
Can you drop from a game, let the AI take over, and rejoin at a later time?

Looks like 2k took a page out of Gabe's book. I've been hit by a couple of game-killing bugs.

The less serious one was, I kicked the shit out of some dickhead who started an unprovoked war. He got tired of me rolling him 30-0 so he offered me all his cities and everything he owned in exchange for peace. I took the offer and made all the cities puppet states. But then I had the Choose Production button because of a bug where it thinks you have to choose production in some of the puppet states. You can't force the turn to end or anything; the only option is to annex all the bugged cities and choose production in them. This made my empire pretty unhappy, but I guess I can get around it eventually, with enough Colosseums and 40-turn Courthouse constructions.

The game-ruining one is that I made peace with the Mohammedan dickheads to the south after kicking the shit out of their unprovoked invasion, and now I can't declare war on them, ever again. The bug is that it thinks our peace treaty is still in effect. According to the forums, the only way to get into war again is to nuke them (and believe you me, I will when I can). In the meantime, the Mohammedan dickheads can freely attack the city-states who are my allies, and I can't defend them because I can't attack the Mohammedans, and I can't liberate them once they've been captured. All I can do is gift units to them and watch them piss them away in retarded combat moves.

I don't want to start an epic marathon game with that second bug because I'm pretty sure I'll end up in a war with someone, I'll want to make peace with them, and I'll eventually want to attack them again for being dickheads.

In the middle of a pretty epic game right now, and I thought I'd let you guys know what I'm up to.

I started as Rome, and began expanding pretty quickly. I met Russia early on, and decided to make them my bro 4 lyfe, ignoring pretty much everyone else. I'd trade them my excess luxury items, they'd supply me with horses to build chariot archers. My empire expanded on one side of the continent, Russia expanded on the other. Two friendly superpowers. Or so I thought.

A nearby city-state was sitting on 2 iron mines. I made it mine by way of my actions. Russia didn't like this, despite our long and mutually beneficial friendship. I'd open up a dialogue with Catherine and she'd talk shit to my face. PMS is a motherfucker. This catty, puerile bitch would soon be smote by the giant raging cock of the Roman Empire.

My first step was to attack her frontier cities. Since I stormed through Monaco and taken control of their mines, I had more than enough iron to upgrade all my Legions. I spent about 4000 gold buying ballistas. Are you laughing now, bitch?

I moved slowly and deliberately through her empire, giving her enough time to purchase and dispatch units from deeper within her empire. They crashed against my lines like waves upon a beach. Omaha Beach, bitch. I was the Rancor, they were that little piggie henchman that got munched in half. We fought in the fucking shade, and gave them something to drink. Okay, that's enough.

Anyway.

So far, I've taken Thebes, Yekaterinburg, Memphis, St. Petersburg, Yaroslavl, and Novogorod away from her. As the fires of victory burned, I offered these cities to rival nations, often times for a minuscule donation of gold (think 10g). Thebes went to France, Yekaterinburg went to the Ottomans, Yaroslavl went to the Greeks, Novogorod went to Siam, and so on.

That's right, Catherine. I don't want your fucking cities. I'm butchering your army, pillaging your lands, and violating your women out of pure spite.

Yeah, keep on asking for a peace treaty.

Maybe I'll change my mind by the time I've reached your capital.

Image

Maybe I won't.
