it's pretty sick once they all start targeting one cruiser at a time and they just go pop pop pop.

I think a dedicated anti-missile cruiser (with a anti-fighter gun and a blaster for frigates) for every other cruiser would probably do the job, that 2nd cruiser using plasma instead of missiles.

Of course, then you would be weak to a no-missile fleet because you've got half your shit in anti-missile defense.

have any of the ones that beat you sent retaliations? What do they look like?

One dude destroyed me all the way. He made a no engine turtle. I only took out a few fighters no other ships damaged substantially. The front line ships had so many shields I never took any of them down(the shields).

How to stop people from being cheap when you make a good fleet.
1. Require engines
2. make the map pretty large so they can't rush you with a pile of ships from the start.
