BTW, server went down when the power was out last night but it's now back up. I can at least connect and stuff looks OK, so hopefully we won't see Pigpocalypse again.

The date for 1.8 is expected to be released this week. I saw jeb_ scratching his head to make this happen. So it must be a good thing :)

a was reading http://www.reddit.com/r/minecraft today and saw that "no more snow biomes until 1.9" http://twitter.com/#!/jeb_/status/113541557067595776

so you can stop looking, posi. :(

Already have.

By the way, start thinking of creative/practical uses for sticky pistons. That lava chamber I found spawns slimes.

in other news, i'm really excited about shift-click working. iirc it was added in 1.7 somewhere but didn't work. It should craft as much as you can craft given the ingredients on the table.

Of course, there are a ton of other cool changes, so if you haven't been keeping up be sure and look over them once the official release is out. PC Gamer posted a good summary.

Even in the pre-release state, I can safely say I hate nothing about the new features. In fact I like them all. Even cave spiders. (ok i hate cave spiders but without cave spiders there would be no cave spiders to scream and die en masse due to painfully hot lava (which i really like)).

edit:
i forgot - i don't like the new bow mechanics. They make it worthless at close range. Which may be realistic but hurts playability, imho. Games have a long standing tradition of unrealistic but heroic use of bows. I'd like to keep that.

hey,

if you want steam to show you playing minecraft without it fucking up your came, I made a way to do it that only takes a min or two to setup.

download this zip, unzip it anywhere, then go to your steam games list and click "add game" on the lower left.

Navigate to the exe file you just unzipped and add it. Now you can appear to be running minecraft through steam.

It doesn't actually run minecraft. It just opens a terminal that says "tap any key to close." but while that terminal is open steam thinks you are playing minecraft.

I tried to get it to have the terminal stay open AND run minecraft, and while that worked outside steam somehow the steam overlay fucked it up. So you still have to run minecraft separately. :( that sucks, yes, i know, but blame Gabe.

1.8 is out! Is anyone interested in more Minecraft? Should Hogg create a new world? Should we use the one that Posi, Myself, Dime, and Korea have been working on via my server? Should we keep the old?

The disadvantages of keeping the old is that we may not get Strongholds and that we'd have to run really far to get new chunks to spawn with the new features.

One of the new features is creative mode, lets you fly and turns your inventory into a list of infinite numbers of every item in the game.

Do we want to do a creative mode server? Either in addition to a survival mode server? Or instead of?

I'd be down with instead of, as long I could have a play for real island where no cheats or item spawning is allowed.
