t's really more so I can give a friend this c2q 2.4 mobo and cpu... so he can play bc2 and later bf3

is it worth upgrading to say an i5 2.8 quadcore (with mobo durr) or would I not really notice any difference? (fuck i7 costing too much i have better things to waste money on). I know one is way older then the other so i don't know if the 400 difference would seem more performance wise then jsut 400.. if that makes sense. I can get a mobo (no sli/crossfire.. because ill never need 2 cards either and new mx shit is way cooler to buy) for a bit under $300. I haz the power, memory, blahblahblah other shit. I'll live with my 5750 for now rather then getting a 6950 right away.

anyway givez me your input or i'll get north korea in your asses... and not the hot sexy time kind agent likes.

else, if any of you are upgrading and selling or tossing a c2d or better cpu & mobo please let me know.. he's one of my best buddies and i'd really like to help him + would be the easiest since it woudl be int eh states already... then i could probably afford *cough lols cough* to get a 6950 nao -_-

Yes, faster. No, not really noticeable/worth it.

If you have a Microcenter nearby, you can get a decent deal on i3/5/7 + mobo or an excellent deal on an x4 840 + mobo. The latter should be $50 for the cpu + $50 off most (any?) compatible mobo, so $50-$100 for cpu+mobo combo depending on how good of a mobo you want.

unfortunately there isn't any near me, im in canadia. Newegg is probably the best I can do:/

I can probably ship the AMD deal in the US, but shipping to canada + tax would kill any of the Intel deals. Also, the new AMD stuff comes out in September, so if you're intent on upgrading I'd at least wait until then. There are confirmed price drops and chip/line refreshes for Sandy Bridge coming in Sept/Oct.

oh, any ideas when in september theyll be released? just to get an idea.. i dont wanna be stuck if like 6950s get super low liek 70s were, and only have 7XXX options if they'll be jackedup, don't plan on paymore more then what a 6950 runs right now(235 cad or so)

Nothing more firm than Q3 at this point. I don't foresee 6950 supply or cost being an issue; there'll probably be even more on the market as people get out of bitcoin mining (or for those that stay, upgrade to the 7-series and sell of their 6-series cards).

damn i want to go buy one now, but if the 7 series will tou out in literally like 2 week.. i should probably wait and get a 7 series

It's basically a slightly faster, slightly heavier MBP with a funky touchpad and macros. Assuming the build-quality is there, it's priced competitively compared to the MBP, but it's certainly not a good value (and neither is the MBP). The video card in there (555m) is a mid-range mobile card, so this is definitely not a desktop replacement as far as graphics horsepower goes; I wouldn't use it as a primary system for BF3 or future games.

Latest leaked roadmap now says Q4 for 78xx and likely Q1 '12 for 79xx

On specs, the 7870 should be a little bit faster than the 6970 and draw less power.

any clues for a rumored pricepoint? if its slightly better hten a 6970, ill jsut get one for 300~ nao.

No pricing yet, but the prices on 6970s aren't great so I'd wait. More good news though, desktop Bulldozer delayed until Oct.

well I haz till oct 20th to buy a card.. so I can be ready for bf3 the next week hopefully theyll be out by then (though i know they wont ) ill have a 5870 to use if needed but blah
