I used the config file from this link, changing only my resolution and get good FPS, decent graphics, and most importantly - shadows at lower settings.

i tried that config thing i linked to and there was a difference but it wasn't good for my gameplay. I had to re-learn how much to move the mouse so i'm not sure it's an advantage.

But here's another reddit link, a great guide to playing Heavy on the Flag / doombringer. Unless the other team is complete shit and not even trying to cap the flag, it's an exciting role as long as you like shutting down cappers and don't mind dying.

The config contains all your settings, including mouse sensitivity, so there are definitely some things to adjust. For me, since I was new to the game, I found it easier to just adjust my resolution and mouse sensitivity rather than find out what lines of my config to edit.

The article does explain the individual settings pretty well.

I went through that entire config file that you linked ...and the one he puts up for you to download has a lot of things in it he explicitly tells you to NOT DISABLE in the actual article.

here's the final result of my work:

note that there is one setting in there that is dependent on your video card chip. bAllowBetterModulatedShadows. I set it to false because i have ATI. switch it to true for nVidia.

Additional Details:
- The double XP event will apply to servers worldwide.
- All players are eligible for the Double XP event whether or not they are fans of the Tribes: Ascend Facebook page.
- The promotion applies only to base XP. It does not apply to other XP sources such as Accolades or First Win of The Day.
- The promotion applies to public servers and custom servers that exist as of Friday, May 25th at 10:00am EST. The promotion does not apply to any Custom Server created or made active after the start of the event.
- Players with VIP status and/or an active XP boosts will receive those bonuses in addition to the double XP.

Don't know if we'll keep playing this, since most of us haven't touched it for a while - but it's on Steam now. There's also a pretty good deal on a "starter pack" until July 4th.
