Yeah Teaks, did a lot of reading on the auction house. Basically, if you sell a $10 piece of equipment, you'll get $6.23 for it (including the standard 2.8% Paypal received payment cut, if that applies). While I think the real money auction house is a great feature and will make things a lot more safe and secure, the fees are a little overboard. I think 15% for the sale itself is reasonable, but I think the 15% to transfer to Paypal from Blizzard's side is kinda nuts.

The auction house regions are also stupid to me. The "Americas" region of course includes the US, Canada, and Latin America. Ok. Plus Australia and New Zealand. Weird, but I'll let it go. And Southeast Asia. What?? As part of the Americas region? So Laos, Vietnam, and other fairly poor countries are included. Now, of course the poorest people will not have their own computers and internet connections, but there will be plenty of internet cafes where they can farm away for items for 16 hours a day. They can cash out from Paypal in these countries just as we can. In US dollars, they'll be making out great. Of course, the extra items being dropped and sold from these regions will bring down the value of items for everyone within that auction house region.

Why do I think this is a problem? Blizzard created a cash auction house with the ability to add and withdraw funds, knowing people would either a) put in their own cash to buy items they want or b) sell items for cash. But including countries with vastly different economies in the same auction house is not a good idea. Item values will be lower across the board - good for the players who buy items, bad for the sellers. It'll also mean a smaller cut for Blizzard, but I bet they set up the regions to mimic the world economy - poor countries mass producing goods to sell to wealthy nations.

I find the cash auction house feature very interesting so I'm curious to see how it plays out. As the average US citizen's time is worth a lot more in US dollars than someone in Vietnam, I don't see it being worth doing any grinding with the intent of finding and selling items. But since Blizzard's RPG's are sooooo addictive (Casino game operators only wish they could match them) people will grind away regardless.

Before the days of [H], I played/grinded a lot of Diablo II. I used eBay to sell items, and eventually my characters when I quit. I sold about $400 worth of stuff. I don't see Diablo III being nearly as entertaining as BF3, or profitable enough to make grinding worthwhile. I know I'll miss out on some gaming with all of you over the next few months by not buying Diablo III, but I don't think I'd do well at limiting my playtime after "completing" the game (seeing all the dungeons and bosses).

How can I launder my drug money if I can't send it over international borders via the Diablo 3 marketplace?

Who said you can't launder it through the Diablo Marketplace? So long as you're good with Blizz being your dirty to clean guy...and taking their appropriate cut, you're good to go. If you need to change regions you just reset the location for your bnet account...

Yeah....the level of fees kinda pissed me off at first, but after thinking about it last night...there's no monthly fee for the game, so any extra money blizz is going to make on it comes solely from the moeny they make off the AH. So long as they maintain a decent number of servers dedicated to keeping bnet/diablo3 up and running (and they're blizz, so they will) I can see them needing a revenue stream to maintain all that. In addition I think that taking fees from the buyers would just limit the number of buyers you have, hence limiting what can be sold and driving down prices altogether. In the end, I dont have a huge issue with the fees as established.

As for the regions: yeah, it's crap that they included anything Asia into the "Americas", but even if they didn't and they tried to base your region off of IP's or any such people would find a way around it in about 2 days, and you'd have that same cesspool of floating crap anyway. Those that are in it for the sake of making a few bucks will find the servers/regions with the highest return for their time investment...and then they'll pay local kids $.25 a day to farm shit for them. This is why I get upset when people talk about how we dont regularly napalm other countries anymore. That's just poor international politics.

Teaks,

me saying "i don't give a fuck" by definition cannot qualify as bitching.

Sorry,
Agent

p.s.
bitching is more like this:

I apologize for my misrepresentation of your negativity. That thread is pretty damn funny though.

Yeah, great stuff there. I will not speak of it within that thread, so as not to disturb the flow of bitching.

Yeah, Asian money farmers ruin games. Although, they are fun to fuck with in MMOs. Not sure you will be able to do that in this.

Maybe once the price drops.
