First impressions after about an hour of playing:

- Fair Diablo feel, little bit of Warcraft thrown in. (Not sure how I feel about it). Quests are "Go here, do this, now go here." Lot's of hand holding that is not necessary when they only leave you one way to run anyway. May only be the first couple sets of quests, not sure yet.
- I keep hitting lag spikes like the old days when everything freezes. I even saw a lag wall, but now they are not black. Wondering if it is a graphics issue or just buggy.
- Picks up gold automagically. Kinda nice.
- Physics engine is too much for no reason and no cool effect from it. Kinda like Magika, but not as cool. May be part of the lag.

The lag issues I assume Blizz will fix. They've got a pretty solid history of releasing completed games that actually work on release instead of using the $-paying public as beta testers.

As for the go-here-do-this questing: kinda sounds like most of WoW and other questing stuff that Blizz had done over the last 20 years. Not saying that it's an excuse or reason for monotony, but not unexpected. Have you had any quests involving picking up or digging through poop yet?

No I have not. I didn't get very far because of the hangups. My buddy told me that the first part of the game acts like a tutorial and then it gets more like a Diablo game after you get past the first section. I will let you know.

Played more.

- The game does open up to be more like a Diablo game.
- They give you a town portal skill you seem to be able to use whenever.
- They cater to WoW like people and have tons of stuff where you don't have to run back all the way you just ran.
- There is no potion mashing. A while back when they announced the health orb on the ground thing, people expressed their dislike, so they brought in potions. Too bad they put a cool down on them.

Seems like I'm gonna buy it, but I was gonna do that anyway.

you know i thought about this game. Then I realized it'll be a click fest with no bullets and no headshots and lots of loot and gear to manage. Not my ideal game. I'd pick it up if there were suddenly more hours in the day.

Perhaps the most important tidbit of information is the news we learned today: Diablo III releases May 15. We finally have a solid release date, one that hopefully won’t get pushed back.

What follows here is a greatest hits collection of our past previews of the game care of our own Adam Biessener, and any other details we have been able to steal away from Blizzard’s stronghold of secrets.

Diablo III Open Beta is this weekend, free for anyone with a battle.net account. Starts noon pacific time today, runs through early Monday morning.

Article: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/blog/4963739 ... -4_19_2012

Download link: https://us.battle.net/account/download/index.xml

Still don't plan to buy since I think it'll be a big time-sucking grind, but I'll try it out to see how they've improved on the formula. I'll be around this weekend if anyone wants to scrim 8v8.

So, it's pretty much what you'd expect.

The gameplay is very close to the same as previous diablo's, just with more options/upgrades/diversity. The graphics have been updated and loading times greatly reduced. And many of the small annoying things of the last one have been eliminated. It's basically the logical progression of the series...nothing mind blowing, but still seems like a good, solid Blizzard product.

They didn't add anything from the previous closed beta, did they? I got really excited and started to download it, then I realized it's probably the same content I ran through in the closed beta.

I would bet it's exactly the same content. Looks like it's start of the game through killing the skeleton king (should put you about lvl 8-10 in a single run).

Couple things that they did do nicely: The 'friends' system is fully integrated across battle.net, so it already recognizes your 'friends' from other blizz games and you can talk from D3 to World of Warcraft to SC, etc. Also, because it's 4-player co-op with missions they improved on the borderlands model by letting you create a party before beginning the game, then choose which mission you want to start on.

Was reading through how Blizz is doing their Auction House for this....they're gonna make out huge.
Quote:
Auction House Fees
Before you post your auction, you’ll see any fees that apply to your listing displayed in the center section of the Sell tab. These fees will only be charged if your auction successfully sells, and will automatically be deducted from the item’s final selling price.

For Equipment (weapons, armor, accessories, and other unique items)

•Transaction Fee (Gold Auction House): 15% of final sale price
•Transaction Fee (Real-Money Auction House): $1.00 USD per item / $1.00 AUD per item
•Transfer Fee (when sending proceeds to PayPal or other authorized payment-service provider): 15% of amount being transferred

For Commodities (gems, materials, dyes, pages, recipes, and other non-unique items)

•Transaction Fee (Gold Auction House): 15% of final sale price
•Transaction Fee (Real-Money Auction House): 15% of final sale price
•Transfer Fee (when sending proceeds to PayPal or other authorized payment-service provider): 15% of amount being transferred
