Hmmmm...i remain....interested. I guess I'm in if this becomes a 'clawn' buy-in.

Playing even good multiplayer team-based stuff by myself = gay
Playing decent multiplayer team-based stuff with clawn = good.

Played it for a good while tonight. Bit laggy and buggy yet but not bad for a beta. Tried commander out and they have uav repair robots that commander can use to repair shit. People actually follow way points but these are the hard core fans im playing with now. Marines can actually win in the original mode now.

Ya just like minecraft. You get the game when it is finished. It's like investing in a developer that has already made a great mode that I have spent enough hours playing to justify.

Did the first one ever get out of Beta?

It wasn't too bad at the end when they released to basic version. It was far too hard to build a marine base and fight off zerglings. First was just a mod if you never played it.

They now have working:

Marines:
machine guns
pistols
shotguns
mines
grenade launchers--- kinda works bit laggy
flame thrower-awesome
jet packs
welders

Aleeens
pretty much the same

Sometimes it is really hard to kill a fade. I like to stack 4 mines and stand on them when I am attacked. Sometimes they survive that though gahhh.

So satisfying when you are commander and you win a huge long game. Still have some optimizing to do. The bigest problem still, HUGE learning curve and too many noobs = u lose bad. Also idiot commanders who think jetpacks are more important than weapon upgrades.

this was one of my biggest annoyances with BF2. also the over abundance of infantry only servers. and artillery. and jets.

How many underscores will it take on a team to ensure that the newbs won't screw us over too badly?

I'm on it already... fun... i'd say 4-5 would be enough on an 18 man server. just ultros and i have fairly good luck if the entire team isn't terrible

Picked up a couple copies for ~$10 since everyone who pre-ordered before it showed up on Steam got an extra copy for free.

I am a master of the game since I have played all the way through beta. Here is some noob questions that are hard to get answered.

Marines
Nothing in an area works without the power node. You may have to use a welder to fix it. (they change it like every patch).
Stick in pairs of 2 and work your way around the map building rts (resource towers) or protect two nodes till u get some upgrades.
Kill cysts to break down enemy structures faster and its very very annoying as an alien com to constantly rebuild them.(they also cost them cash)
Use your axe to bring down structures unless you are in a huge grp and are rushing a hive.
If the buildings are invis as com for a scan and kill the mushroom.
If you encounter a gorge(pig thing) that has a green wall built just ignore him and go around another way. They are very hard to take down if they are build up and there are always more than one way in.
Do not be afraid of onos. If you have 4 guys you can take him down.
If they have a lot of lurks(flyers) stack 3 mines in a doorway arch. He will fly right into them and normally you will kill him.
Mine the alien shortcuts like vents.
It might seem like you are going to lose but as long as you are getting res you are getting upgrades. At a certain point you will come back hard in a lot of cases.

Combat--jump a lot

Aliens
kill stuff respawn kill stuff
If you manage to get into the base undetected take out the satalite dish. I have lost a lot of games because i didnt notice them taking it down and could ot teleport team back in time.
The basic tactic for higher life forms is attack quikly run away and heal. Rinse and repeat.

Com school for noobs
Build an RT on both sides unless you know they are on a certain side. Armory first then sat dish after two rts. upgrade that to phase gate and build a phase gate at a secured site and home base. then work on upgrades and more rts. Biggest deal is you cant last long term without too many rts in place.

Assuming "definitely" means "own or going to buy". Also have 2 spare copies of the non-deluxe version left for whoever wants.
