We'll sit in the queue together. I guess I'll create a region whenever I get my copy of the game tomorrow then. Or Thursday or whatever. Amazon. :/

metacritic reviews are generally pretty positive, which are the only ones that matter anyway

Compare the metacritic scores from journalists and users:

Journalists: 89/100
Users 2.5/10

Also keep in mind:
1. Some journalists made their rating using a pre-release version that was not subject to all the day-one wait time issues. Some review websites have adjusted their scores following release day to account for the shitty online service.
2. Some lesser known review websites try use metacritic to drive traffic to their websites. The highest review score for a game usually appears at the top of the game's page. That's why you see sites like "Sweeden Leet Gamer Reviews" giving the game 100/100. Their article will now appear at the top of the metacritic list and drive traffic to their site.
3. Users are generally only driven to actually give feedback when the really love something or they really hate something. If the user is just satisfied or indifferent about the product then they won't waste time writing on online review. The user reviews you see on metacritic come from the very vocal and very zealous group of people who hate, hate, hate online DRM and/or EA.

In the end, the real "rating of the game" is probably somewhere between 2.5 and 89... so I'm guessing it's about 50/50. The game is probably cool, EA's stupid bullshit makes it hard to play.

I'm not gonna spend $60 to see if it will work from China. I'm going to wait for a cracked version to get out there and then download it for free and play by myself.

But EA's online webbrowser means that playing your favorite games with your friends has never been easier.

Serious question: Did it save your progress when booting you?

I'm really tempted to use the Internet Library and check out a copy of this game, just to give a middle finger to EA.

-edit WTF AOE2 for $17.99? no thanks. I've already bought it 3 times from Walmart for $5.

Gamers love to pile on an easy target.
Yes fuck EA, fuck Origin. That's nothing new.

Fundamentally the need to be online at all times does make sense for server-side save.
I'm fine with that as someone who has high speed always on internet (if it works).

Reminds me of the outcry regarding Diablo III.
Give it a couple weeks and if it's still shit than avoid it.
If they get it together, then when it goes on sale, I'm in.
