My sole victory in birding (aside from our chickens) was a robin that I shot in the back with a homemade bow and arrow. Being a child of 10 or less, I had not been able to hone the wood to a razor point on the cement block at the foot of the porch stairs, as I would learn in later years, and so the bird escaped at the price of some feathers, which I think were frightened off rather than shot.
