In honor of Dimethyl's return to PC gaming, I've written my 5 favorite things about dystopia.
1. community - with only enough players to keep 1-2 servers full from early afternoons - 2amish, you see a lot of the same faces. This is why [h]ard used to be so fun.
2. lots of play time - respawn isn't just a timer, it's impacted by the load out of your team, more medium and heavy classes mean longer respawn when they die, which adds strategy but still lets you play damn near all of the 20 minutes of a round.
3. Skills - hits register and make a beep when they do. Only 1 weapon has a random element and it's balanced by the lack of punch.
4. Many maps played - 7 maps, all are played, only 1 is really disliked. there are also 3 or 4 popular custom maps that are well designed. Maps are large, have multiple objectives, and multiple strategies.
5. Customization - class, implants & weapons. You have 3 classes, 2 sets of 6 implants, and 4 weapons to choose from. But things can also be kept really simple: just load the saved default Medium Assault rifle. Then: F1 to see invisible people, f2 to see sounds through walls (footsteps, gunfire), f3 toggles healing.
I hope you'll come play with us again. If you're confused at first, it'll fade as you learn how the maps work. You will die a lot at first but then your latent CS skills will come out. But you don't have to try, don't ever -try-. Just play and you'll have more and more fun as you grasp the depth and the balance of the game.
