For those who are interested here is a summary of my equipment . This is very simple and easy to understand. A ton more is involved.

This is the HPU Hydraulic power unit. It sends down hydraulic push through an umbilical that can be over 3000 ft. Seen below. It also sends the control commands and power to the control pod.

Umbilical or reel. Goes sub-sea to the tree for control of the well.

This is the tree. It connects directly to the wellhead. They drill through it. Control pod is orange. Pod is mine. Controlled by a laptop. From inside HPU.

This is a tree being ran to the seabed on drill pipe.

Its british thats how they spell tons. It may also mean british metric tons which converts to 58 tons.

I heard about a crane falling over while I was in Houston and it's still there. They can't seem to figure out how to remove it. A 5ish ton flare boom is hanging off the end of the hook 40 ft in the water. In one of the pictures you can see where they welded the cranes supports to the deck. They pulled out of the fixtures. A man was operating the machine when it toppled. He broke his leg in three places and fell overboard. He survived.
