I'm looking for some more newness that I can play and enjoy in my single-player-only shitty internetness. Bought Jagged Alliance 2 (and the expansion for it) a long ass time ago, loved the shit out it and played through multiple times.

Tried some of the x-com games (about midway through the series, not tried the latest of them) and was alright, but not great.
Have played through most of Fallout Tactics, just need to finish it off.
Got Silent Storm and finished it off several years ago.
I've seen nothing but crap reviews for "Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge" (Recent russian successor to JA2).

Anyone got suggestions of other good squad turn-based strats for me to pick up and enjoy? I'm plenty good with old ones (they'll actually run on my laptop!), enjoy something with shitloads of different guns and guns that I recognize (i.e. prefer non-futurestic, but whatever). Anyone?

I think you'd really enjoy Gratuitous Space Battles. and it's on sale this weekend for 6.74 for the whole pack, normally 25 bucks.

i loved the demo, but never wanted to pay full price cause i don't play strategy games much.

summary - design your ships, design your fleet, set your plan of attack, place your ships on the battle field, and click go!

Then watch the battle in its gratuitous glory! Of course you can speed it up if you just want to see the result. As you get better you get more bigger ship chassis to build with and new weapons, engines, armor, etc.

Yeah, picked that one up and played through a long time ago too. Was mildly disappointed in the shortness of it. Did however pick up GSB. Am refusing to try to connect to steam until I've played through what I've already got downloaded...soon as I tell steam to go online i have to wait 4-8 hours to connect, then another 2-12 for a download to finish.

Have put several hours into GSB now...pretty damn fun. Makes for a fun distraction while watching TV or whatever (sound is completely unimportant). Not a "I'll play 30 hours a week of this!" game, but fun distraction for a long time to come yet.

Couldn't find an individual 'challenge list' (just the global), but sent you an individual challenge. It's just a slap-together group, but worth trying out.

kick ass. i'll put something together tonight for it. I got my ass handed to me on the 2nd mission with my shitty blaster cruisers being unable to damage reflective shields.

Yeah, I've run through about 1/2 of the single player missions. Have found that fighters are horribly underpowered for the expense...been playing, but not found a cost-effective way of making them work. Cruisers (mostly) with a few support frigates seems to be the way to go.

only if you use subsilver or prosilver styles, atm.

i also am working on changing "thanks" to "secks" because, i mean really, come on.

also i think the thumbs up icon is pretty goofy. if some one wants to whip up something better please do.

my inspiration was all the LOL videos and images we've posted over the years that are so deeply buried they'll never be seen again except when I re-read hogg's random crap thread on my deathbed.

cause there are too many things that track thanks. It's not just a little count by the post. i.e. the stars on each thread which represent the ration of total thanks in that thread / total thanks given in the forum, compared to the ratio of other forums. And the same for users.

how would Dislike play into that? Would it just counter a single like? what if there is no like? Now you're dealing w/ negative shit, and it's just a forum mod. Also, check the toplist and gratitudes buttons on the upper right.

anyhow, i'm not going to sweat "dislike" because this forum is ALL AWESOME. there's nothing to dislike, so stfu w/ your holier than thou

edit: also, wtf. you're welcome.

YOU CREATE SOMETHING

p.s.

teaks, you're looking for the shoddily drawn thumbs up button on the top right corner of the post.

I think instead of a thumbs-up it should be a penis-up. Just a thought.
